Beacon Records Record Face |
Pete talks about UFO1:
I'm not really sure how we got our first record deal, because it was so long ago. I guess we had taken our tapes to just about everybody. It was one of those things where we were really young. Starting off, they [record companies] wanted us to be a pop band. We were never a pop band, or interested in that.
You got three people, Me, Mick Bolton, and the original drummer. We were called the Boyfriends.
Phil, who we shared the house with, became the singer. Andy Parker got in, because he was very good at fixing our equipment (laughs) and it just went from there.
Eventually, we were signed by a record company called Beacon Records. We didn't get a record advance, cause you didn't at that time, when youre 17.
Everyone
had a job and the jobs paid for the equipment, which was very, very expensive.
In the end we went "fuck it." We did this record and for whatever
reason, it was very popular in Germany and Japan, places like that. It's probably
the worst record ever made, but for whatever reason, it worked!
